Yup, I’ve had a total change of heart. Almost one year ago exactly, I lamented that I just couldn’t fathom the idea of taking a trip without my daughter. But now? I’m kind of already thinking about my next one.

I’ve been away from my daughter for a night before, but I can count the times we’ve spent more than a weekend apart. Other than mandated travel for work, I’ve rarely ever missed the opportunity to put her to bed. But this weekend I decided to head to Massachusetts with my boyfriend for three days while my daughter stayed behind with my parents in Connecticut.

At first, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. Did she feel abandoned by me? Was she being respectful of my mother? It took a while, but I finally did stop worrying. And I had an awesome time. I missed my little girl every once in a while, but if I am honest, it was really nice to have a break.

So if you’re on the fence like I was about vacationing without your kid, here are 5 reasons why you should seriously reconsider:

1. Your kid probably won’t miss you. Well, he/she won’t miss you that much. I called my daughter at least 6 times in three days and she spoke to me for a total of 3 minutes. She was too busy having fun with my parents.

2. You can sleep ’til noon. And when you wake up, you don’t have to watch cartoons!

3. You can eat a full meal–completely uninterrupted. No trips to the potty, no cold steak because you spent the last 15 minutes cutting your kid’s chicken. I totally forgot how good food. I’m normally so consumed with my daughter eating her dinner that my meal is always lukewarm by the time I get to it, but to enjoy a hot meal? Epic.

4. Your bag is so much lighter! I recently revealed a few of the things I carry when I’m with my daughter, so imagine my delight at unloading all that crap. Carrying a bag that weighed less than 15 lbs. for three days straight was amazing and my back totally needed that break.

5. The look on your kid’s face when you get back. Neither me nor my daughter were miserable while we were apart, but we did miss each other. When I saw her on Sunday, she couldn’t have been more excited. And I felt the exact same.

It reminded me of that one Friends episode where Ross tries to impress a girl by wearing tight leather pants.  And then he couldn’t pull them up after using the bathroom…even with the help of baby powder and lotion.  Hilarious!

Now can you imagine the same scenario but with a pregnant woman…traveling on a plane?  Sounds like a nightmare, right?   But then again, when it comes to maternity clothes, I believe in comfort first, and I would never wear leather maternity pants.
