Living in New York City, we rarely drive. And as I was preparing for my daughter’s arrival, I knew we’d be driving even less since travel is that much more cumbersome with an infant. So it was an easy decision for us not to splurge on a car seat. We’d seen several places that the Britax Chaperone was arguably the best on the market, but we weren’t willing to spend $230 on a seat we’d rarely use. Instead, we went with the $85 Graco SnugRide. It had all the safety features we were looking for with a price tag that suited our budget. And now that my daughter has graduated to a front-facing car seat, I’m really glad we didn’t shell out over $200 for the Britax. I can count the number of times she rode in her first car seat and it definitely wasn’t enough to justify the cost. What about you? Did you splurge on an expensive car seat with lots of features? If so, do you think it was worth it?

We’ve all said it, maybe after waiting in a really long line for the ladies’ room, or on an endless road trip, or at an outdoor concert where the portable toilets are less than hygienic: “I wish I was a guy and could pee anywhere.”
Well, apparently, now we can with GoGirl, a portable “female urination device” that lets you pee anywhere. It’s pink (of course) flexible, funnel-like cup made of medical grade silicone, that slips on you-know-where so you can you-know-what, standing up. It comes with tissue and a plastic bag to stash it until you wash it out. Or if you prefer, since it costs just $5.99, you can toss it.
I’ve been in a few situations where I might have gone for the GoGirl, especially when I was pregnant and needed a bathroom every 10 minutes. But I’ve always been able to either wait it out or find an alternative rest room. How about you?

I don’t know about you, but when I was pregnant I never had the desire to “commemorate the experience of pregnancy” by painting my belly like the ladies pictured above. The last thing I wanted to do was to draw more attention to my huge belly. But come to think of it, a painting of Nemo is a lot cuter than a belly covered with gray stretch marks, no? What do you think?

I guess there are people who can’t leave a BABYBJÖRN or a sling alone. Introducing the Peekaru—the latest (and greatest?) way to carry your baby. A mom was inspired by kangaroos and the way that joeys stay warm in their mamas’ pouches. She developed the fleece system to wear over a regular baby carrier in order to keep the infant warm and the parent unencumbered by additional outerwear. Waterproof and sunproof versions are also available.

In a just-released British Poll, readers were asked which A-list cebremom is the “Yummiest Mummy.” They went with, big surprise, Angelina Jolie over their countrywoman Kate Winslet, among others, by a big margin. Jolie, mom of six with Brad Pitt, scored nearly a third of the 50,000 votes, with Halle Berry and Reese Witherspoon, tied for second with 19 percent. Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Garner were a bit further down. Julia Roberts didn’t even make the list!
We think all of these celebrity moms are fabulous and have great style, but we want to know…
