I have nothing against Gwen Stefani. I actually think she seems like a pretty awesome mom. But am I the only one who thinks it’s a little weird that she dyes her son’s hair?

Find out what other moms have to say >>

  • I’m not sure it’s a question of ‘weird’. Parents do all sorts of weird/creative things with their kids and that’s all fine and dandy. The problem here is the harsh bleach on the fine hair of a pre-pubescent child. Our hair changes 2 to 3 times in our lifetime, each time getting stronger and more coarse. Strong dyes and bleaches work by stripping the hair down, removing the natural color, and replacing it with chemical color… thus making the hair weaker. To bleach a young child’s hair is just wrong, plain and simple. You are damaging their growing hair follicles and possibly making them susceptible to health problems like cancer. As a parent, I can’t see myself knowingly risking my child’s health, just for the sake of ‘individuality’ and ‘fashion’ (both of which are more for the parent). If you really want to go the color route, then do simple rinses or the ever-popular Kool-aid trick. I hate to judge other moms and really it is Stefani’s decision and I’m sure she’s a good mother, but the one who potentially suffers the consequences is too young to have an educated, informed say.
