High Heels for Little Girls: To Ban or Not to Ban?

You’ve seen the images of little Suri Cruise traipsing down the streets of Paris and New York in her itty bitty heels.  I have to admit the shoes are cute, although I wouldn’t let my three-year old do the same.  But to ask for a ban on the shoes?  Nah, I’ll just choose to shop for other kid-friendly styles.

According to the Daily Mail, some mom groups like Mumsnet feel more strongly about the issue, calling for a ban on the heels that “look more suited to a lap-dancing club than the feet of a young girl.”  Yikes.  Actually, I think they look more like the dancing shoes you see on Dancing with the Stars, but what do I know?

What do you think?  Are these shoes shown below inappropriate for little girls to wear?  Would you let your girl wear them?

  • It’s better than sneakers with a dress…i can’t stand when girls wear sneakers and dresses…just ugly. A small heel is fine for a special occasion.

  • I think little kids (be it a girl or a boy) should be comfortable (yes and that includes a sneaker). I do not think heels are appropriate. Girls today are a little too grown and they do not know how to be children for very long. We dress them beyond their years and then get upset when they think, say and do things that are inappropriate. Just because it looks “cute” does not mean it’s right. They’ll be there soon enough. Enjoy the innocence of this age because, heels, purses, makeup, boyfriends, etc will happen before you know it and you’ll be longing for these simpler times.

  • I probably wouldnt choose a pair of heels for the little girls in my life, but I could see two of my neices being very happy to prance around in their Princess dresses and heels :) Each person ( even the little ones) have styles of their own and to allow someone other than their parents to dictate what they can and cant wear or what their parent can or cant purchase is unacceptable to me.
(ballerina)Toe shoes would be in the same catagory .Will they attempt to ban them also?
