Barbie Glam Vacation Jet

My 6-year old son is obsessed with LEGOs—he’s even taking a LEGO animation after-school class—so when we asked him to make his holiday wish list, we weren’t surprised to see one LEGO set listed after another.

But one surprising toy on the list?  The very pink Barbie Glam Vacation Jet.  The hot holiday toy for girls is basically a flying dollhouse, giving Barbie and her friends the “ultimate travel experience with a first class cabin with seating for 2, a full-size kitchen and even a surprise pop-out glam resort in the back of the plane.”

It’s actually a cool-looking toy, and I could see him spending hours playing with it along with his other fleet of planes.  And considering how much he loves to travel, it’s not that much of a shocker.  Also, this is coming from a kid who loves playing with his dollhouse—yes, he has a dollhouse.  And he’s always asking why there aren’t any American Boy dolls for boys.  So, yes, I would totally buy this for him…if it ever goes on sale!

Price: $85

  • My son asked for Barbies when he was about 4, because he wanted to play with his sisters and he liked to dress them and fix their hair. I bought them for him.

When my favorite cousin was little he and I would play ‘house’ I always played the dad and he played the mom and stayed ‘home’ to take care of kids. He grew up to be very sweet and happily married.

  • The only problem I would have is the price. It is a cute set, neat plane and all, I could see a little boy liking this. One of my boys wanted a baby doll for Christmas when he was 3 and I got it for him. We always seem to freak out when a boy wants a doll, but don’t seem alarmed when girls play with “boy toys”. What difference does it make – they share with one another and don’t see a problem until the adults get in the picture. That son of mine is now a wonderful father to 7 great kids. He cooks, does laundry and other household tasks as needed, plus works his job. Maybe pretending to be a daddy helped him prepare to be one!

  • I myself a male played with suzie doll and i have nothing worng with any boys playing with gril toys. Same for grils playing boy toys. That’s whats wrong with todays society we can’t live how we want too. That’s were religion plays its hold on us all of them bad mouth ever day of the year. Their are a bunch of control freaks trying to rule us and just look at them child molester. Thats my opion.

  • It’s out of my price range regardless of the gender of my child. I’m suspecting that you are asking if I would buy a Barbie or her accessories for a male born son. Most definitely! If my daughter asked for a Transformer toy I would get that for her.
I don’t believe in limiting my children’s play due to their gender. These are toys they aren’t going to “change” a child. Gender or sexuality are determined in the womb.

  • i remember having a Barbie jet back in the 70s- it was white.

You would think they would have gone with a more neutral color (especially at $*%!!) to get boys to want it for gi joes and such, You might want to check ebay and see if you can find one of those old ones, probably a whole lot cheaper!

never have understood why they dont have american boy doll for that 2-6 old period. You’d think it would be profitable, as girls would want them too…

sometimes i dont think toy manufacturers really think outside of stereotypes. Is my daughter adores the movie Cars, but most of toys aimed at BOYS, yet one of leads was a girl car. SIGH

  • Wow, I’m in a similar dilemna this year. My fourth son, age 4, has asked for a Barbie this year. He has also asked for a helicoptor. My military spouse is all for the coptor, but dead-set against the barbie. Its causing quite a rift between us because as someone else already eluded to, sexual preference is determined by nature, or so I believe. I just want my children to be happy and don’t see the big deal. I’m hoping for a bigger response on the subject so we can review them together and discuss it further.
