Earlier this week, I disclosed 5 things I’ll never buy used, so it seemed only right that I follow that post up with the items I would buy used. I wouldn’t exactly call myself a germaphobe, but I do have my hang-ups about using things people have already gotten their use out of. That being said, there are things that I have gotten as hand-me-downs that I do actually use every day. What are they? Here goes:
1. High Chair. Before I had any time to do my research, my daughter was ready for a high chair. A friend of my parents was actually look to get rid of the one she’d used for her grandchildren, so I accepted the gift and we’ve been using it ever since. Of course, we wiped it down with disinfecting wipes before my daughter ever sat in it.
2. Baby Carrier. Unless you know the seller was in the habit of wearing her baby carrier naked, carriers very rarely come in contact with too much skin and that makes them okay to buy from someone else in my book. Look for a carrier like the Ergo Baby Sport Carrier that can even be thrown in the wash, just for safety’s sake.
3. Changing Table. Changing tables can be very expensive–this Stokke model is $500! That’s why if you can, buy the actual table used from someone, then just get a new pad to place on top.
4. Toddler Bed. Kids only stay in toddler beds for a few years, which makes spending $200 plus dollars on one a huge pain. But lots of toddler beds use crib mattress, so buying a gently used frame is a great way to save some cash.
5. Baby Monitor. I didn’t buy a used baby monitor, but I wish I could have sold mine to someone. I never even took it out the box, so find a mom like me who never used her baby monitor and you’ll be good to go. Even if it did get a little use, wipe it down with Clorox wipes, pop in some fresh batteries and you’re all set.
