Cry Translator App for Your iPhone

For the first year and a half of your child’s life, he’s communicating with you primarily through crying. But, barring mother’s intuition, how the heck are you supposed to figure out if he’s hungry, bored, or sleepy? Isn’t there an app for that?

Well, turns out that there is. The Cry Translator application identifies a cry within ten seconds, and then quickly identifies it as hungry, sleepy, annoyed, stressed or bored. (The five universal cries to all babies regardless of culture or language.) The application then offers potential solutions based on its findings.

I’ll admit I was a little skeptical. And since my baby is now a year old, I feel like I’m pretty tuned-in to his cries. But I was astonished by how accurate the application was. Knowing the baby was hungry for lunch, I let the application diagnose his cries. Sure enough, the app suggested that I get on that lunch preparation. Nap time? Again, the app was right on.
