Did you catch the scene on The Today Show last week with a line of happy diapered babies soaking in buckets? They were getting a bath in The Tummy Tub ($45), a vertical bathing tub that has been popular in Europe for more than 10 years and is distributed by Janis McKellar, an enterprising mom here in the U.S. You might be seeing a lot more of them because after the story ran on TV, her Web site bathedwithlove.com sold out of the tubs.
The tub is shaped that way to “mimic the mother’s womb,” McKellar told the Today crew, so the baby will naturally relax in a fetal position. It also uses less water and because of the shape, the water stays warm longer. It’s available in clear, blue and pink and there is an optional stool to make bathing baby more comfy.
The tub doesn’t look very big, but it can be used for children up to two years old. Nobody was fussing – and there were twins in one tub!
