What: Soul of Africa Shoes
Why: There’s no guilt at all involved in adding to your shoe collection when you pick up a pair from The Soul of Africa. This sustainable development initiative was started by family members of Clarks and Froggie Shoes. Women in South Africa are trained and paid a fair wage to create hand-stitched shoes. They support their families and part of the proceeds go to help children affected by AIDS. Since 2004 Soul of Africa has raised more than $1 million to fund the Khulani orphanage, child care programs and a hospital.
I tried the Zandie in red, a great casual shoe that’s a cross between a ballet flat and a moccasin. The shoe is super comfortable with flexible, soft leather and a padded footbed. I love these shoes and what they stand for.
