We all get a slight case of cabin fever in the winter—kids even more so. By this point in the season, coloring books are passe, clay is dried up, and we are desperate for some new arts and crafts projects. Enter two fabulous ideas that will keep young artists busy…maybe even until spring!

The Art House teaches kids basic shapes at first, and then has them use those skills to draw more elaborate animal figures. The Volume 1 DVD ($17.99) follows Teacher Emily and the Art House Gang as they use circles, squares and triangles to draw a dog, fish, dinosaur and much more. The instruction is simple (without being condescending) and it’s suitable for kids ages two and up. And grown-ups could probably learn a thing or two as well!

Albino T-Shirts are for kids a little older. Browse the website, pick a white shirt with a stenciled design, select appropriate fabric markers, and voila, your child can design her very own fashion statement! My son loved the Picasso Triggerfish (29.50 Euros), but there are a multitude to choose from. All you have to do is let the artist do his work, iron it, and the shirt is good to wear. It’s a great project for home, but a wonderful gift as well—for kids or adults.
