Any day, I’m expecting a baby boy. (In fact, by the time you read this, he may have already arrived.) If there’s one thing that I remember from when my first son arrived, it was how the photos of me just two weeks post-partum were so different from the ones just prior to his birth. My boy was a week late, time I spent lounging at the pool, sleeping late, and napping. Two weeks later, I could barely get two consecutive hours of sleep, and feed myself or shower. I pretty much hide those photos today.

I sought the counsel of a professional this time around. Sarah Kugelman is the founder of skyn ICELAND, one of my favorite skin care lines. Here’s her advice to help new moms look gorgeous, even when the circumstances conspire against them. I’ve armed myself with these wonderful products, ready to meet the challenge this time around.

“I was armed from day one with our Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels ($45) and used them constantly for the puffiness around my eyes,” she says. “Once a week I would do one of our Cool Therapy Masks ($55) just to relax and rejuvenate since trips to the spa were definitely not going to happen.”

“In order to reduce the stress and stay healthy, my diet had no caffeine (and I was nursing), no white/refined carbs, no alcohol (for about six months after giving birth), no spicy foods, no sugar substitutes and lots of low mercury fish (for the EFA’s), berries (for the antioxidants) and nuts (high protein, high omega’s),” says Sarah. “I also drank tons and tons of water. Nursing makes you so thirsty and you have to replenish. But it’s also so great for flushing the toxins from your body and keeping your skin clear.”
